The Promised Nigeria

Nigeria is country with so many good things in her, but we have leaders who are only interested in their pockets not minding what the people who voted them into power are going through. As it stands now, we cannot look up to the skies as youths to sing we are the leaders of tomorrow because, we've not learnt anything from our leaders. Have you thought of what will become of our unborn children if Nigeria is like today? I am not a prophet of doom but, i just believe the reality is unfolding right in our eyes as youths. All we've learnt so far is improved corruption which has affected our education system, finance system, and every other system that at all exist in Nigeria. What does the future hold? Will the promised future ever come or it's just fantasy? http://manassehfegyiawodo.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-promised-nigeria.html

Today's news

A suspected robber, Yusuf Olalekan, has been sent back to prison custody after a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting on the Lagos Island turned down his plea for bail. It was learnt that 19-year-old Olalekan and an accomplice, who is still at large, had allegedly attacked a businesswoman, Jolomi Etabuko, in her house on Ihuntayi Street, Victoria Island, around 2am on April 20, stabbing her in the shoulder.

The gang left Etabuko in a pool of blood and carted away money, phones, laptops and jewellery, among other valuables. The property stolen was valued at N2.2m. Neighbours were said to have been alerted to the incident by Etabuko’s groan.

They reportedly took her to a hospital. It was gathered that the woman was responding to treatment. Our correspondent was told that the police launched a manhunt for the robbers after the attack was reported at the Maroko Police Station the following day. Olalekan was eventually arrested and arraigned before the presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Ajayi, on four counts bordering on robbery and assault.

The police said they were intensifying efforts to recover the property and arrest the fleeing suspect. A prosecutor, Sergeant Daniel Ighodalo, while urging the court to remand the suspect, said the offences contravened and were punishable under sections 297, 243, 285 and 310, (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011. The charges read in part, “That you, Yusuf Olalekan (19), and other now at large, on April 20, 2015, at about 2am at Plot 2, Block 14, Ihuntayi Street, Victoria Island in the Lagos Magisterial District, armed yourselves with jack knives and did conspire to commit felony to wit: robbery. “That you and other now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did grievous harm to one Jolomi Etabuko by stabbing her seven times on her shoulder with intent to steal. “That you and other now at large, did steal $300, a box of gold jewellery valued at $7,000; two IPhones valued at N400,000; Samsung Galaxy with two SIM cards valued at N30,000, Sony laptop worth $1000, IPad worth N130,000; all valued at N2.2m, property of Jolomi Etabuko.”

The magistrate said the case file should be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody pending the outcome of DPP’s directives.
A Federal high court in Abuja has ordered INEC to immediately nullify the election of Benue politician, Christian Abah, after allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him by his political rival, Mr. Hassan Saleh, was established to be true.

Christian Abah was elected in the just concluded general election to represent the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal ‎Constituency in the forthcoming 8th National Assembly.

In his judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola said investigations carried out so far by the court showed that Chris Ada presented a forged Ordinary National Diploma certificate in Accountancy he said he obtained from the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, in 1985.
According to the judge, an earlier judgment of the National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal ‎sitting in Makurdi delivered on September 6, 2011, and a letter by the Registrar of the polytechnic, Mr. Suleiman Buba, proved that the certificate presented by Abah to INEC was forged.
Justice Ademola declared his election invalid and stated that all votes accrued by him during the election were invalid as well. His rival, Hassan Saleh who came second during the election was declared winner of the election by the court. Justice Ademola ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to immediately commence prosecution of Abah for forgery and perjury.
